Coaching

NI Fencing is committed to the development and growth of fencing by training new and existing coaches. Our goal is to provide high-quality coaching resources, improve access to fencing for people of all ages and backgrounds, and support our coaches’ professional development.

We achieve this through various initiatives and partnerships, such as collaboration with Sport Northern Ireland, British Fencing, Fencing Ireland and Scottish Fencing, ensuring our coaches have the necessary skills and qualifications to foster an inclusive and thriving fencing community.

Coaching Pathways and Training Activities

NI Fencing runs 3-4 coach training sessions annually that range from beginner or plastic fencing courses to advanced levels, covering Levels 1 to 4. These sessions are designed to upskill coaches by developing their technical and mentoring skills.

Our key initiatives include:

  • Foil, Sabre and Epée Training: specialised training available in all 3 disciplines.
  • Advanced Qualifications: we encourage coaches to pursue higher levels of qualifications, helping them grow professionally and making an impact on the overall standard of fencing instruction in Northern Ireland.
  • Focus on Inclusivity: our coaching program is designed to increase female representation among fencing coaches, and to run courses in socially-deprived areas of Belfast and Derry/Londonderry, promoting accessibility and diversity in fencing.
