  • Congratulations Jonathan – Awarded Master Armourer

    Congratulations to Jonathan Courtney on his appointment as a Master Armourer by the British Fencing Guild of Armourers.  Jonathan was part of the weapon control team for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games and the promotion to Master Armourer was a just reward for all his hard work over the past six years.  This is a first for Northern Ireland and indeed makes Jonathan the most highly qualified armourer on the island of Ireland.  Jonathans journey to becoming Master Armourer included being part of the technical team at the following competitions;

    2006 World Veterans Championship,
    2006 Commonwealth Fencing Championship,
    2007 – 2011 F.I.E Satellite Tournament Mens Epee,
    2009 World Cadet and Junior Fencing Championship,
    2009 5 Nations Championship,
    2011 European Championships,
    2011 Olympic Test Event,
    2012 Olympic Games,
    2012 Paralympic Games.

    The Guild of Armourers is responsible for the development of Armourers within British Fencing and membership is open to members of NI Fencing.  For further information please contact any of the armourers via their contact details on the Technical page.

  • Under 16 NI Champions

    NI Fencing set out to enhance the experience and engagement of Under 16 fencers in the Northern Ireland competition circuit by adopting a medal and prize system for Under 16 fencers in all weapon categories during the 2011/2012 season.  The Board is pleased to announce the following Under 16 NI Champions.

  • Mike Westgate appointed as new Performance Manager

  • AGM NI Fencing Ltd – 21 August 2012 – UUC Campus

    Dear Members,

    The second AGM of NI Fencing Ltd will be held on Tuesday 21 August 2012 – 7:15 for 7.30pm start – at the University of Ulster Coleraine Campus.

    In accordance with the Articles of Association (available on the NI Fencing Website) the Board shall consist of The Managing Director and up to six Directors who shall be elected at the AGM.  The Managing Director holds the post for three years and is not up for election at this AGM.

    The following Directors wish to be re-elected under section 6.3 of the Articles:

    P Hazlett (Director)
    J Simpson (Director)
    A Slater (Director)

    There are therefore 3 vacancies on the Board of Directors and we now seek nominations for those positions.  Nominees must meet the following criteria:

    Be a member of Northern Ireland Fencing (Or British Fencing via any home nation);

    Be Over 18 Years of Age.

    In addition not more than two Directors may be elected from any one club.

  • Performance Manager Post 2012/14 – Note of Interest

    Dear Members,

    NI Fencing Ltd is searching for a Volunteer Performance Manager to support the development and performance enhancement of Northern Ireland fencers.

    Applicants must be a member of NI Fencing and have a strong track record in the management and development of elite athletes.  As part of the role the Volunteer Performance Manager will be responsible for the operation and integration of the British Fencing Academy system, and will be required to report regularly to the NI Fencing board on matters relating to performance.

    Applicants must have the following essential criteria:-

    1. Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults/Child Protection course within the past three years.
    2. Hold an Access NI enhanced disclosure certificate with NI Fencing Ltd as the registered body.
    3. Hold Level 5 coaching qualifications in at least 1 weapon discipline.

  • New NIF Website!

    This is the new look NIF website.  This is very much a work in progress so please keep checking back for updates!  We will also be adding in historical information (e.g. results from previous competitions) over the coming weeks.

  • John Ramsay – Obituary

    It is with great sadness that NI Fencing Ltd announce the passing of the long time technical director of British Fencing and founding president of England Fencing.  We worked extensively with John during the 2006 Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Belfast.  Although John had retired three years ago due to ill health he had served fencing in different capacities as a volunteer for over 50 years.

  • Recent Competitive Success at the Sainsbury’s School Games

    Congratulations to all the fencers who represented Northern Ireland at the recent Sainsbury’s School Games. Notable individual results were Niall Dowse (Bronze in Men’s Sabre) and Steven Pinkerton (Bronze in Men’s Epee).  Notable Team results were Bronze (Men’s Epee), Bronze (Women’s Foil) and Bronze (Women’s Sabre).
