  • Sport Development Officer

    Sport Development Officer

NI Fencing would like to welcome Jess Rutherford to the team, we look forward to working with her over the coming seasons.

Jess will be working to promote fencing within Northern Ireland.

Here are a few words from Jess:

Hi, I’m Jess and I have recently been appointed Sports Development Officer for Northern Ireland Fencing. From a young age I have loved all things sport and I have mainly been involved with sailing and hockey. More recently, sailing is my main sport and I enjoy travelling and competing in events. Last year I placed 3rd in the RS400 Irish Championships. I also have a keen interest in health and fitness. I am a sports student at Ulster University Jordanstown and this is where my experience in sport development began. I’ve had the opportunity to meet fantastic lecturers who are very experienced in their field. I have never tried fencing- but there’s a first time for everything! However, I am very passionate about the benefits of lifelong involvement in sport and I am looking forward to working with the very welcoming NIF team, getting to know everyone in the fencing community and helping to develop this great sport.

  • Parents in Sport Week

    Parents in Sport Week

NIF is supporting Parents in Sport Week! This week we’ll be sharing some resources and guidance from the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit in order to promote the involvement of parents in fencing.

“Parents, through their support, encouragement and understanding, play a pivotal role in supporting their child’s participation, success and fun when playing sport. It’s essential that sports clubs communicate regularly with parents so that both coach and parent work towards the same goals.” – Paul Stephenson, NSPCC CPSU
