  • Coach and Athlete Development Workshop

    On Saturday 14th September Dusty Miller , Head Of Performance Coaching and Development at British Fencing and a Performance Coaching Consultant at UK Sports Institute, will be hosting a Coach and Athlete Workshop at Shankill Leisure Centre, 100 Shankill Rd, Belfast ,BT13 2BD from 10am – 5pm. There is free parking at the Leisure Centre .

    The Workshop will be focused on providing skill development for the Coaches and its practical application for the fencers attending .

    During the Workshop Dusty will be working with the coaches to identify best practice coaching and the fencers will be engaged in structured sparring and learning.

    The Workshop is open to all coaches and fencers , in all 3 weapons , over the age of 14 years old.

    Please bring lunch and snacks and enough fluid to last you for the day.

    Some way of recordings information from the day – pen/paper, tablet etc- would be useful to have with you.

    1.15 – 16.30       Workshop element 3 for fencers and coaches

    We are excited and proud to be supporting our strategic partner NI Commonwealth Games Council / Team NI in the delivery of fencing sessions for the Footprint Women’s Centre and to be providing the opportunity for more people to try the fantastic sport of fencing!

    Caoimhin Heaney – NICGC Staff Intern who recently qualified as a Level 1 and Plastic Fencing coach as part of the SNI funded Coach Development initiative – has delivered 2 sessions for the females at the Footprint Women’s Centre in the Colin area of Belfast.

    Established in 1991 , Footprints Women’s Centre – https://www.footprintswomenscentre.org/womenscentre  – is an anchor organisation , supporting the delivery of positive change in the lives of women and children in the Colin area .

    Further sessions will be delivered during the summer and the dates will be confirmed shortly.

  • Fencing Ireland: Women in Fencing Workshops

    Fencing Ireland have a range of workshops coming up in the new year for female fencers in Ireland and Northern Ireland!

    Women in Fencing Workshops (January/February) – This is a first for Fencing Ireland and is promised to be a fantastic opportunity for female fencers.

    1. Nutrition- 16th Jan, Online, 7-8:30pm

    2. Strength and Conditioning- 3rd Feb, Sport Ireland Campus, 10am-1:30pm

    3. Breathing power for Female Fencers- 3rd Feb, Sport Ireland Campus, 2-4pm

    4. Sport Psychology- 6th Feb, Online, 7-9pm

    Session 3 – YOUTH Sport Psychology  

    There are still places left on the youth sport psychology course. Highly recommended for those fencers that compete at a national and international competitions.

  • Queens Summer Camp

    QUB FENCING SUMMER SCHEME

    QUB fencing are excited to announce their first summer scheme with Mike Westgate as your coach! This is open to all fencers aged 14+ whether you’re a beginner or advanced! This will be a great opportunity to develop your skills and meet other fencers!

    The scheme will take place between July 1st-2nd between 10-4pm on both days in the Queen’s PEC in the Minor Hall.

    Sport NI are currently offering a Level 2 Mental Health Training Course known as ‘Reaching out through Sport’ to sports clubs free of charge. See below further details on the course including booking information.

    Level 2: Reaching Out Through Sport Mental Health Course | Sport NI

    The course focuses on building wellbeing into the club environment.

    Example topics covered:

    • Defining and understanding mental health and mental ill health – understanding the health continuum and how the club can play a part in overall wellbeing;
    • Tackling stigma and barriers to reaching out for help – both within a club setting and personal frame of reference, providing solutions to tackle same;
    • Risk factors and symptoms for mental ill health – becoming aware of what to look out for and how the club can contribute to intervention;
    • What can help/recovery – looking at the club role in recovery and support wellbeing;
    • Club approach to raising awareness and support for club members; and
    • Where to get help and self-help strategies – accessing services.

    Workshops are free of charge and are delivered either face to face or online via Zoom. They are designed to be attended by 8-16 members of an individual club.
