We are thrilled to announce a brand-new venue for the 2024 Derry Open! This year’s event will take place at Thornhill College on Culmore Road, Derry, on the weekend of the 5th and 6th of October. Expect an unforgettable competition experience in an exciting new space!
We’re bringing down the entry fee to just £20 This takes into account the one-off £12 insurance fee for fencers on an Irish licence. This new licence also means means Republic of Ireland participants can compete in any British Fencing events for the rest of the year under their Irish licence.
To ensure this event is a success and meets the venue costs while keeping the reduced entry fee, we need a solid number of fencers signed up by the 27th of September 2024. If we don’t hit that target, the event won’t proceed, and we don’t want anyone to miss out on what promises to be an incredible weekend!
This competition is perfect for new and young fencers (14+ on the day of the event) who want to jump into their first tournament in a supportive and welcoming atmosphere. For seasoned fencers, it’s the perfect training ground ahead of the 5 Nations and other major events. And if you’ve been out of the game for a while, this is your chance to dust off the sword and return to the piste—we’d love to see some familiar faces back in action!
Ready to sign up? The entry link is just below! We can’t wait to welcome you to Derry for an epic weekend of fencing. Got any questions? Shoot us an email at [email protected].
See you in October!

The new Northern Ireland – Fencing Ireland Associate Membership allows members of Fencing Ireland who hold a competitive licence to enter unlimited British Fencing registered competitions in Northern Ireland.
The annual membership cost is £12 (£10 via auto renewal after the first year).
Previously, members of any other federation (e.g. Fencing Ireland) could apply for a temporary compete licence to enter, however this is limited to two competitions per year. BF recognises that a number of Fencing Ireland Members would like to travel to Northern Ireland to compete on a more regular basis.
The membership type is similar to an existing associate membership offered by Fencing Ireland allowing British Fencing Members to compete in Ireland for a reduced fee.
