    Sport NI, in partnership with the Department for Communities, will today open the COVID Safe Sport Pack Programme for expressions of interest from eligible organisations to receive a pack. The programme aims to assist Sports organisations with their management of the ease of lockdown and a safe return to sport during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    NI Fencing would like to welcome Johnny Davis to the team, we look forward to working with him over the coming seasons.

    Johnny will be working to promote fencing within Northern Ireland.

    Johnny Davis competed internationally for over 20 years representing GB at 2 Olympic Games and 5 World Championships and competed at 4 Commonwealth Championships for Northern Ireland.

    Professionally he has experience of organising major sporting events – European Fencing Championships , World Boccia Cup , World Police and Fire Games – as well as having worked for Triathlon Ireland as a Development Officer. He currently represents British Fencing as the Olympic Team Manager.

    Speaking about his appointment he said –

    “ I am really excited and grateful to be taking on the new role as Development Officer for NI Fencing. Fencing as a sport , and fencing in Northern Ireland where I started my career , have been cornerstones of my life for the last 40 years and I am looking forward to trying to develop the reach of our fantastic sport locally. In conjunction with the work I do in fencing on the International stage I am confident that we can raise the awareness of our sport and attract new participants”

    NI Fencing would like to welcome Jess Rutherford to the team, we look forward to working with her over the coming seasons.

    Jess will be working to promote fencing within Northern Ireland.

    Here are a few words from Jess:

    Hi, I’m Jess and I have recently been appointed Sports Development Officer for Northern Ireland Fencing. From a young age I have loved all things sport and I have mainly been involved with sailing and hockey. More recently, sailing is my main sport and I enjoy travelling and competing in events. Last year I placed 3rd in the RS400 Irish Championships. I also have a keen interest in health and fitness. I am a sports student at Ulster University Jordanstown and this is where my experience in sport development began. I’ve had the opportunity to meet fantastic lecturers who are very experienced in their field. I have never tried fencing- but there’s a first time for everything! However, I am very passionate about the benefits of lifelong involvement in sport and I am looking forward to working with the very welcoming NIF team, getting to know everyone in the fencing community and helping to develop this great sport.

  • Johnny Davis: British Senior Foil Team Selector

    Johnny Davis: British Senior Foil Team Selector

    Johnny Davis, who has represented Team GB at 2 Olympic Games and 5 World Championships, has been appointed by British Fencing as a selector for the British Senior Men’s and Women’s Foil Teams for the 2017 / 18 season. He will be involved in the selection of fencers for all levels of Senior International Competition including the European and World Championships.

     Johnny commented “ I am honoured to have been asked to be a selector by British Fencing and I look forward to working with the fencers and coaches to help them achieve International success. I hope to be able to use my experience from representing GB over 15 years to help the fencers achieve their ambitions”

    NI Fencing would like to congratulate Johnny on this appointment and welcome it a great acknowledgement of his contribution to British fencing generally and the work he’s done for fencing in NI
