    Mental Health Workshop

Fencing Ireland is delighted to announce a collaboration with the European Fencing Confederation to run a Mental Health and Life skills programme for our fencing community

This course is FREE to all members of Fencing Ireland – 14 years – 23 years and our Coaches

(Northern Ireland fencers typically need to obtain or already have an Associated licence from Fencing Ireland)

This programme is designed to retain and positively develop young athletes in fencing by highlighting the powerful role sport can play in shaping their lives. It supports fencers aged 14–23, along with their coaches, by drawing on Danish research and proven practices that focus on youth life skills and mental development within sport.

The initiative targets both young athletes and the adults responsible for guiding their sporting journey, creating a shared framework for growth, learning, and wellbeing.

    For athletes, key topics include:

    • Self-determination
    • Self-awareness
    • Time management
    • Growth mindset
    • Deliberate practice
    • Interpersonal skills
    • Values clarification

For coaches, the primary focus areas are:

    • Self-Determination Theory
    • The fundamental principles of sustainable training communities
